Habitat for Humanity Repair Corps
November 6, 2017
Habitat for Humanity’s Repair Corps program is an initiative funded by The Home Depot Foundation to help build, rehabilitate or repair homes in partnership with U.S. military veterans and their families.
Projects range from new construction to critical home repair, such as weatherproofing, installation of access ramps and kitchen or bathroom renovations, for wheelchair access. Our affiliate is proudly serving our veterans who have selflessly served us. We believe in the power of community and the ability to create a positive impact on our veterans.
Mr. John is a Vietnam Air Force Veteran. When notified of his approval for this project, he said:
“I almost overturned my wheelchair. “Thank you so very much. Even though it will be after Christmas, I will consider this a true gift from GOD. I have been praying for this for a while now.”
Mr. Johns 5% required payback was graciously donated on his behalf by an anonymous donor. He is still in awe of this random act of kindness, from a stranger he’s never met. Team Depot volunteers helped with the demolition and reconstruction of his kitchen and bathroom to accommodate Mr. John’s needs.
Habitat for Humanity Bay Waveland is one of more than 45 Habitat offices selected to participate in the Repair Corps program, through which volunteers will help build or repair more than 200 veterans’ homes across the country.
